A community-based non profit outreach organization headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, SHEDEV Community Outreach Center, Inc. was established in December 2008 to provide educational support and other charitable services to needy children, needy youth and their families, the elderly, the poor, the homeless, the disabled and other needy persons in Carnarsie, East Flatbush, Brownsville, East New York and other inner city areas of the United States. The purpose for forming the organization is to implement a bridging organization by which the needy children, youth and adults who are domiciled in the inner city communities identified above and others who dwell in the rest of New York City, New York State, throughout the USA and the rest of the world could be provided with quality information and resources with which they could become responsible citizens wherever they are domiciled.
The Problem Inner city families are in crisis, especially because of criteria such as marginal poverty, drugs, alcohol, spousal abuse, homelessness and other quality of life problems. Needy families are finding it more and more difficult to meet the obligations of family life, including providing for even the basic of needs of their children. In inner city homes, many youths and children have no adults to monitor them and as a result, are left to bring themselves up by their own bootstraps. This leaves them at the mercy of peer groups who may pressure them to commit illegal acts on a daily basis. The Board of Trustees of the SHEDEV Community Outreach Center, Inc., realizing that every family, every youth, is important to the development of our communities and to his or her own development, decided to implement the center as an instrument of support by which the many social ills by which the targeted communities are affected could be corrected. |
